Institute of Non-ionizing Radiation of Slovenia (INIS) will organize an international seminar on 5G and Health

2 July, 2019.

The international seminar on 5G and Health is organized by the Institute of Non-ionizing Radiation (INIS) under the patronage of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public Administration of the Republic of Slovenia.

The main purpose of the Seminar is to address the key issues in relation to the deployment of the new generation of the mobile communications 5G, electromagnetic fields and health. 5G is certainly a hot topic that had been majorly discussed in the media, even before it has actually started. Therefore, we are already facing many NGO initiatives globally to stop any activities until all the questions about potential risks are investigated. Up to date, many studies on millimeter waves have been completed and have not confirmed any detrimental health risks. Moreover, for better characterization of the health risk, of course, we need additional research, which, however, will begin with the establishment of all standards and the operating system of the new generation 5G. In the meantime, due to lack of communication among stakeholders, there may be unnecessary delay in the new 5G network rollout. In addition, stricter national exposure limits than guidelines set by International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) will force the network providers to introduce additional measures to optimize the network rollout.

This seminar will provide an overview of the EMF, 5G and health issues to all stakeholders with a special focus on state of the art in the health risk assessment, new ICNIRP guidelines and key procedures in relation to network rollout. The Workshop will bring together leading specialists in the field, from scientist and researchers, policy-makers to engineers, designers, planners, government officials, regulators, standards experts and public from Slovenia and broader region.
