12 October, 2020.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the cancer agency of the World Health Organization, revised its website "IARC Monographs on the Identification of Carcinogenic Hazards to Humans" on October 9, 2020.

This revision is to notify the publication of the summary results of "Monographs Vol. 126: Opium consumption".
https://monographs.iarc.fr/news-events/volume-126-opium-consumption/

In the Monographs, opium (an addictive narcotic drug produced from the poppy plant, Papaver somniferum, and can be consumed as a variety of preparations, either by smoking or by ingestion) were classified as "Group 1: carcinogenic to humans". Opium derivatives (e.g. opiates such as morphine and heroin) and opioids (e.g. fentanyl) were not considered by the Working Group.

*Note from JEIC:
Previously published volume of the IARC Monographs was “Vol.127: Some aromatic amines and related compounds“.
And there is no change in the carcinogenic hazard categories for EMFs.
