German Radiation Protection Office (BfS) recommends low SAR values for mobile phones

8 January, 2021.

German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) published a press release on recommendation of low SAR (specific absorption rate) devices.

In a list published on the internet, the BfS provides a comprehensive overview of the SAR values of common tablet and smartphone models. The list has been regularly updated since 2002 and contains numerous models with 5G function.

“When buying a new device, you should consider not only the technical features – for example, whether the smartphone supports the latest mobile communications standard 5G – but also the aspect of radiation protection”, emphasises Inge Paulini, President of the BfS. “With the search function of the SAR list, anyone can – and should – check whether the device being considered would make a low-radiation Christmas gift”.
“According to the current state of scientific knowledge, there is no confirmed evidence of a causal relationship between the electromagnetic fields generated by mobile phone use and human diseases. Even though the technical aspects of 5G are new, the electromagnetic fields used remain the same. Likewise, the underlying physical and biological mechanisms of action remain the same when these electromagnetic fields are used. Thus, no health effects of 5G can be expected if the limits are complied with”.
